New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day have been my favorite holidays for at least a decade. It’s a chance to mark a change, a point to say goodbye, or good riddance. Although I understand that it’s just a day, in reality, it feels different. A line is drawn between one year and another. A chapter break and it always seems full of possibilities.
2022 was an extreme year. So many momentous occasions. I wouldn’t want to repeat it, but I love how it turned out. It was the year I quit teaching, and it stands as memorable for that alone. Living feels different without that deranged monkey on my back. The bane of my existence is no more.
If you’re into numerology, 2023 adds up to 7, which tends to be a good number. In Chinese astrology, it’s the Year of the Rabbit–it’s a lucky year.
All superstitions aside, it is a new number to use when dating documents. I’ve blogged before about my success with resolutions, and I’ll be making those again. However you celebrate or don’t, Happy New Year!
